The Grid House

The design challenge was to design an urban studio house for a sculptor. It was a 2000 sqft land which was divided into 10’x10’ grids for the ease of understanding area and scale.  Hence the name “Grid House”   The site opens out into a canal from the rear and has an existing tree that was required to be integrated into the design. The solution consisted of two blocks the service block with servants quarters, storage etc. at the front with close proximity to the road and living, dinning, studio, and bedrooms towards the rear tucked away from the busy street and with views into the canals. The two structures are connected by the courtyard and the connecting pathway in the middle
